Description

Pat Metheny – 80/81 is a double album by guitarist Pat Metheny, recorded May 26–29, 1980 at Talent Studios in Oslo and released the same year on ECM Records (cat. no. ECM 1180/81). It was produced by Manfred Eicher with Jan Erik Kongshaug as engineer. Away from his Group, Metheny plays here with Charlie Haden, Jack DeJohnette and tenor saxophonists Dewey Redman and Michael Brecker; the material ranges from folk-tinged pieces to free improvisation and Ornette Coleman's "Turnaround". In 1981 the album received the annual award of the German record critics (Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik). This copy is the 1980 German original pressing with original inner sleeves.

FAQ

Is this the original pressing?
Yes. This is the 1980 German first edition on ECM Records, cat. no. ECM 1180/81.

How does 80/81 differ from the Pat Metheny Group albums?
Instead of keyboardist Lyle Mays and his Group, Metheny plays here with two saxophonists and the Haden/DeJohnette rhythm section. The result is much closer to acoustic post-bop and to Ornette Coleman.

What does Media NM- / Cover VG+ mean?
NM- (Near Mint minus) for the record means close to new with at most minimal signs of use. VG+ (Very Good Plus) for the sleeve means light wear. All grades are explained on our Vinyl Grading page.

Do you have more Pat Metheny records?
Yes, for example Pat Metheny – Offramp, Pat Metheny – American Garage and Pat Metheny Group – Pat Metheny Group. More titles are in our Jazz collection.
